Opening in 2022, Monsieur Vo is an elegant and modern Michelin-recognized Vietnamese meat and seafood restaurant in the East Village that spotlights Vietnam’s ăn nhậu culture, referring to the beloved tradition of celebrating and bonding over savory foods and plentiful drinks. Building on over five years of success at their flagship Madame Vo kitchen, husband-wife owners Chef Jimmy Ly and Yen Vo will unveil Monsieur Vo in the space that previously housed the critically-acclaimed Madame Vo BBQ, which closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Though a handful of crowd favorites from its predecessor make an appearance on the menu, Monsieur Vo is a totally new and original concept that expands beyond Vietnamese barbecue with reimagined street dishes like Banh Xeo Tacos, as well as more large-format meat platters like a Bun Bo Hue Beef Shank.

Brought to life by the Hudson Valley-based Scott Kester Designs, Monsieur Vo’s sumptuous interior is likewise completely redesigned, taking grand inspiration from the 11th Century Ly Dynasty, a nod to Chef Jimmy Ly’s storied surname. With circular arches and natural materials meant to evoke Vietnam’s tropical climate, the restaurant transports diners to a bygone, pre-colonial era — in a sleek and inviting setting. By employing the name “Monsieur,” Chef Jimmy Ly and Yen Vo seek to pay homage to the men in their lives, namely their fathers who fled Vietnam as refugees to rebuild life anew in America.
